Games from Game Development Camp now available online

Danish high school students worked intensively for an entire week, learning how to create a game from scratch. Now the results are available online. The participants have chosen to distribute the games under open source licenses, to give everyone a chance of seeing how it all works.

Approximately 50 high school students from all over Denmark have been gathering for their common interest in game development. Each participant have been part of a team to create a functional game in less than a week. The students have created all the graphics, programming as well as conceptual development themselves, and after a week of hard work, the results have now been made available for everyone to test and play through.

Everyone can download the games, or go through the source-code.

Some of the inspiration to go open source can be attributed to one of the teachers at the camp, Argentinian Pablo Vazquez, who works at the Blender Institute in Amsterdam. All the teams have decided to release their games under the Open Source licenses. The teams decide on the specifics for the licenses individually.

This means that all the games created at the summer camp are available on the website, along with all the code, 3D models and textures. All the games will run on all operating systems (Mac, Linux and Windows).

All the games at the camp have been created using Blender 2.4.6, and the built-in game engine. The have translated the entire site to make it easier for foreign visitors to navigate the site.

I’d really recommend trying Maggy the Magnatoon, It’s quite awesome. You have to combine physics and magnetism in order to solve puzzles.
